INTERNATIONAL SERVICE PROJECT TO GUATEMALA
Our International Service Committee supported a Service Project in Guatemala, in the villages around Lake Atitlan, about 200 km NW of Guatemala City. MAP
Our primary project was to install 20 improved "Onil" wood cookstoves and support the building of 20 latrines in a village called La Cruz, part of San Lucas Toliman.
Our team consisted of Daybreak Rotarians Ron Blank, Patrick Maguire and his lovely wife Maura, Parksville Sunrise Rotarian David Sheppherd, & Ladysmith Rotarians John & Mary Mulrooney. Jacqueline Mealing, Rotary Oak Bay with 21 years of experience in Guatemala and acted as our site advisor, translator and guide to our project.
The team arrived in Guatemala and we all moved to the nearby city of Antigua. After a pleasant stay in a private home, we went in a hired van for the three hour trip to San Lucas, Toliman Province, where we were ensconsed into Hotel Toliman.
Our blogspot has photos and full details of each day's events HERE
WHITE BOARDS FOR GHANA
Our continuing support for the Public School in Sunyani Ghana has resulted in Daybreak now providing 15 whiteboards for classrooom instruction. Fun & funds were generated by the fellowship event of painting the fences at Jaap & Francines home.
Additional monies were contributed by our Club members, and Nanaimo North Rotarian Doug Pearson.
The first pictures show our suspect efforts at painting the paddock fencing white. The second set show the results using the Whiteboards in Sunyani Ghana Public Schoold in the Classroom.
